The 21-year-old centre-back is out of contract at the end of the season and has been heavily linked with a move to the British Isles next summer on a free transfer.

Leeds have been tracking him with the view to snapping him up at the end of the season and Celtic have also been monitoring his situation at the second-tier German club.

Ambrosius is yet to make a decision on his future, but Hamburg are working to make sure that he signs a new contract with the club.

Boldt stressed the club’s interest in keeping the defender at Hamburg and insisted that talks are in progress with his agent over a new deal.

“It is no secret that we would like to keep him longer”, the Hamburg deal-maker told German daily Bild.

“And he is on the right track in terms of performance.

“We are in contact with his adviser.”

Hamburg are keen to tie him up on a new deal by the end of the month as Ambrosius will be free to talk to clubs over agreeing on a pre-contract from January onwards.
