With Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez sidelined with long term injuries, there have been suggestions that Liverpool could sign a new defender in the January transfer window, which opens next week.

The Reds have been linked with a number of centre-backs ahead of the winter transfer window, including highly-rated RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano.

Ajax’s 21-year-old centre-half Schuurs is another defender that has been placed on the Reds radar for future transfer windows.

However, the Dutchman has cast doubt on whether he would accept a move away from Ajax any time soon by admitting he is keen to remain in the Netherlands for the next three seasons.

I’m not really in favour of going abroad early“, Schuurs told Dutch outlet 1Limburg.

I feel at home here so I want to play here for a few more seasons.

It remains to be seen if Schuurs would reject the chance to move to Liverpool if it presented itself, and whether Ajax are willing to sell the highly rated defender.

Schuurs has made 20 appearances across all competitions for Ajax so far this season, including two games against Liverpool in the Champions League.
