The 33-year-old Juventus midfielder is being heavily linked with a move to Goodison Park in the ongoing transfer window and it has been claimed he has already touched base with Everton.

Despite Carlo Ancelotti holding his former player at Real Madrid in high regard, it has been suggested not everyone at Everton is sold on the idea of roping in the veteran midfielder owing to doubts about his fitness.

However, Ball feels the potential addition of a player of Khedira’s quality could impact the Toffees’ dressing room in a positive way as other players would need to do better in training with added competition.

The 41-year-old recalled Everton snapping up former midfielder Gareth Barry from Manchester City in the summer of 2013 and he went on to make 155 appearances for the Merseyside outfit across all competitions.

“There have been reports of Sami Khedira, and talk around his age, but we have been here before”, Ball wrote in his column in the Liverpool Echo.

“What about Gareth Barry? He was brought in at an old age and he was very good and took us to a good level.

“Khedira, okay, has not played any minutes for Juventus this season which is a concern but if you can bring in top quality players, it makes the demands of training much higher and other players thrive off that.”

The German international has only six months left on his contract at Juventus and is expected to cut his stint short as he has been frozen out of the squad under Andrea Pirlo.
