The 24-year-old has two more years remaining on his contract with Lyon, but is attracting significant transfer interest from the English top flight ahead of the new season.

Leeds, who are on the lookout for a new left-back to potentially replace Ezgjan Alioski this summer, have been credited with an interest in Cornet, though they are less keen on Lyon’s asking price.

However, the Whites are not the only Premier League club keen on the left-back as newly-promoted Watford are also interested in acquiring his services.

The Hornets are keen to strengthen their left-back department ahead of their return to the top flight and have identified Cornet as an ideal candidate to do so.

Watford, who are close to signing former Tottenham Hotspur man Danny Rose on a free transfer, are engaged in negotiations with Lyon over the signing of Cornet.

The Vicarage Road outfit failed in their attempt to sign the Ivory Coast international back in January 2019, but are hopeful of getting the deal over the line this time.

However, it remains to be seen if Leeds will step up their interest in Cornet and make a move to get ahead of Watford in the chase for the player.

It is said that the Whites are not ready to pay Lyon’s asking price of £20m for the player, but could be willing to do business with the French club if they lower their demands.
