The Whites snapped up midfield starlet Lewis Bate from Chelsea on Thursday on a three-year-deal, beating off Premier League rivals Liverpool, Southampton and West Ham for his signature.

Leeds are now trying to complete a double swoop from the capital club as they are looking to rope in Bates’ ex-Chelsea team-mate Gallagher on a loan deal.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side held talks with the 21-year-old a few weeks ago but they are not alone in their admiration for him.

Leeds’ top flight rivals Newcastle have held discussions over Gallagher, while he also talked to new Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira and sporting director Dougie Freedman this week through a video call.

However, Leeds are keen on beating off competition for Gallagher’s signature and introduced their vision for him through an impressive presentation.

The presence of Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road and how young players are provided pathways to raise their game at the club have been key to them landing Bates and Junior Firpo this summer.

Leeds are hoping they have gained an edge in the race to land Gallagher’s signature having given him a clearer idea of what their plans are for him in the upcoming campaign, if he chooses to join them.

Callagher, who is in pre-season training with Chelsea, is mulling over his options as he wants to play regular football next season and it remains to be seen where he will end up playing with Leeds, Newcastle and Palace keen on him.
