Newcastle have signed Joe Willock from Arsenal on a permanent deal, but are keen to bolster their squad further before the transfer window slams shut.
The Magpies have identified centre-back as a priority position and have been linked with a host of players, including Malang Sarr and Ethan Ampadu.
Schalke defender Kabak is another player Newcastle have been linked with this summer, but Steve Bruce’s side face competition from Torino for his signature.
According to Torino-focused outlet Corriere Granata, the Serie A club have stepped up their efforts to sign the Turkey international.
Torino are currently locked in negotiations with Kabak’s agents as they try to agree personal terms with the central defender.
Kabak earns €4m per year at Schalke and meeting his wage demands could prove to be an obstacle for Torino, who remain hopeful of finding a solution.
Torino are prepared to offer Schalke €1.5m to take Kabak, who Newcastle are yet to make an offer for, on loan and insert an option to make the move permanent for €10m.
