Veerman has been heavily linked with a move away from Heerenveen all summer, but his future has continued to remain under the scanner with days left in the window.

Rangers have been linked with being interested in taking him to Glasgow and AZ Alkmaar are believed to be keen to get their hands on the Dutch midfielder as well.

Heerenveen’s €10m asking price has deterred several of his suitors and the player himself stressed recently that the club must be more realistic about what they can get for him.

Jansen conceded that he admires the quality of the midfielder, but remained non-committal when probed about AZ’s interest in signing him this summer.

He said in a press conference: “I think Joey is a very good player.

“I really don’t know [whether we can sign him]. I say that I think he is a very good player.

“But no more than that.”

Veerman wants to move on from Heerenveen but for the moment there is nothing imminent.

It remains to be seen whether he can wriggle out of the Dutch club before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
