Having fallen out of favour at Newcastle under Steve Bruce, Longstaff is set to spend the rest of the 2021/22 season out on loan.
With the Magpies prepared to send him away on loan, Longstaff had attracted interest from several clubs including Stoke City, Sheffield United and West Brom this summer.
However, Scottish Premiership club Aberdeen, who were claimed to be in advanced talks with Newcastle on Thursday, appear to have won the race for his signature.
Longstaff is currently in Aberdeen to finalise his temporary move to the Pittodrie outfit as he looks set to ply his trade for the Scottish side this season.
As the midfielder edges closer to a loan move to Aberdeen, Newcastle boss Bruce has insisted that it will be great for him to go out and earn regular playing time.
“It’s a great opportunity for him to go and play – it’s as simple as that”, Bruce told a press conference.
There have been suggestions that Longstaff will join the club where he feels he will play the most amount of first team football and the Dons seem to be his destination.
