Saul has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this summer, with Chelsea and Manchester United said to be interested in him.
Chelsea are keen on signing the Spain international on a loan deal with an option to make the move permanent in the future.
However, there have been suggestions that Chelsea have seen their attempts to sign Saul stall, with Atletico Madrid have second thoughts about sanctioning a loan move.
Those claims appear to be wide of the mark as the La Liga champions are still open to allowing the midfielder to leave the club on loan.
Atletico Madrid, though, want to bring in a replacement for Saul before sanctioning a move for him and have struggled to source one so far.
Saul has been tipped to stay at the Wanda Metropolitano should Diego Simeone’s side fail to bring in a suitable replacement.
With less than two more days remaining in the transfer window, it remains to be seen if the Spanish giants can find a replacement for the Chelsea and Manchester United target.
