The midfielder was expected to be on his way to Merseyside and Everton were looking to snap him up before the window closed.
But Arsenal and boss Mikel Arteta blocked the move and told Maitland-Niles on Monday that he will not be leaving the club ahead of today’s deadline.
It resulted in the Arsenal star’s outburst on social media where he indicated that he was desperate to leave the club for Everton.
Maitland-Niles is believed to be still pushing for a move today but it has been claimed that he has paid for his social media outburst.
The Gunners have told the midfielder that he will not be training with the first team anymore.
Arteta seems to have laid down the law after Maitland-Niles went public with his attempt to engineer a move.
He is even prepared to play right-back this season but so far, Arteta has preferred Callum Chambers and Cedric Soares over him.
It remains to be seen whether the Arsenal star can still force his way out of the club today.
