With the high-profile signings of Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho, Manchester United were busy this summer splashing cash on some big money moves.

However, other than Daniel James’ move to Leeds United, it remained quiet at old Trafford in terms of transfer business on deadline day, but they could have seen further departures.

It has emerged that French giants Lyon made a late approach on deadline day to lure away Martial from Old Trafford on a season-long loan deal.

However, the 25-year-old rejected the opportunity to move to Lyon as he wants to stay in Manchester to play alongside Ronaldo.

Martial was part of Lyon’s youth set-up before he moved to Monaco and they wanted him back at the Groupama Stadium, but he decided to stay put at Manchester United, where he still has three years left on his current deal.

The Frenchman struggled with his form last season and was sidelined during the business end with an injury, but has featured in all three of the Red Devils’ Premier League games so far this term.

Although Martial is keen on sharing the pitch with Ronaldo this season, he is expected to be among the players that could see less game time owing to the Portuguese’s return.
