Sterling was one of the players who Manchester City were open to letting go in the summer transfer window.

The winger has been linked with a move to Barcelona in recent days and it has been claimed that an attempt was made to take him to the Nou Camp towards the end of the last window.

Barcelona discussed signing him on loan from Manchester City on deadline day, but there was little time to pull off the move.

And according to Catalan daily Sport, the two sides have continued to maintain contact over a potential switch in the future.

Sterling is no longer a guaranteed starter at Manchester City and was open to moving on in the summer.

He likes the prospect of joining Barcelona and is aware that he is going to be one of the key players if he joins.

A move in January could be explored but everything is likely to depend on where Barcelona could be in the next few months.

For the moment, they are struggling under a unpopular coach in Ronald Koeman and have lost both of their Champions League group games.
