Kounde was one of Chelsea’s top targets last summer and the club were more or less expected to take him to Stamford Bridge.

The Frenchman has an €80m buy-out clause in his contract and Sevilla were more or less resigned to losing him in the summer.

But Chelsea did not trigger the clause or go close to what Sevilla wanted before they could agree to let him go in the last transfer window.

However, it has been claimed Chelsea remain very much interested in Kounde and are expected to rekindle their interest in him in the near future.

With several defenders in the last year of their contracts, Chelsea are expected to spend big on a centre-back again next summer.

And Kounde very much remains a target for the Blues despite their unsuccessful attempt in the previous window.

Kounde was keen on the move last time around and was believed to be disappointed at not getting the transfer done.

He is likely to be more than willing to join Chelsea if and when they go back for him in the near future.
