Roma are in talks to sign the 24-year-old midfielder from Arsenal during the January transfer window.

Jose Mourinho likes the player’s versatility to play both in the middle of the park as well as full-back and Roma are keen to take him to Italy.

Maitland-Niles has approved the move to Roma, convinced by Tammy Abraham, and the two clubs have also agreed on the details of the deal, which would be an initial loan with an option to buy.

But according to Italian daily Il Messaggero, Arsenal and Roma are yet to come to an agreement on the purchase clause figure.

The Gunners are prepared to come down from their initial demand of €17m and are ready to fix it at €15m.

But for the moment, the Serie A giants are not keen to go over more than €10m for the option to buy figure.

More talks are scheduled between the two clubs between today and tomorrow as Roma look to push for an agreement.

Maitland-Niles is keen on the move to Italy and is waiting for the two clubs to work out a deal.
