Much to Burnley’s fury, Newcastle have triggered the buyout clause in Wood’s contract with the Clarets in order to get their hands on the forward.

The New Zealand international has been keen to move to Newcastle and personal terms have already been agreed between the club and player.

Newcastle have been in the market for a striker since Callum Wilson’s injury and Wood emerged as Eddie Howe’s preferred choice.

And it has been claimed that the striker is now being put through the first part of his medical at Newcastle.

Newcastle are keen to get him through the medical soon after which he will sign on a contract with the Magpies.

Howe is looking to have Wood in the Newcastle squad that will face Watford at St. James’ Park on Saturday.

Wood, who joined Burnley on a deal worth £15m from Leeds in 2017, has scored three times in the Premier League this season.
