Since arriving at Villa Park in the summer of 2018 from Hibernian, McGinn has evolved into one of their key players in the middle of the park.

The Scotland international’s performances for the Lions have not gone unnoticed and it has emerged that league rivals Manchester United have identified him as a potential target in the summer, as they look to bolster their midfield.

However, former Aston Villa hitman Agbonlahor has issued advice to McGinn to remain at Villa Park and snub Manchester United in the next transfer window.

“John McGinn should stay at Aston Villa and never think about going to Manchester United”, Agbonlahor told talkSPORT.

Agbonlahor explained that the Red Devils are a club that are going down while Aston Villa are on the way up, which would also make the Midlands outfit a more preferable destination for players in the summer over the Mancunians.

“I believe that come the summer, what Aston Villa are looking at, you would rather sign for Aston Villa than Manchester United this summer.

“Manchester United are going down and Aston Villa are on the way up.”

Agbonlahor pointed to a how a number of Manchester United players are trying to run down their contracts and are looking to leave Old Trafford at present while more and more players are keen on joining Aston Villa.

“It is like who is going to be the Manchester United manager?

“Look at the players that are running down their contracts.

“Players want out of Manchester United at the moment.

“Players want to come to Aston Villa at the moment.”
