The 24-year-old midfielder’s future at Juventus has come under the scanner towards the end of the window due to serious interest from Aston Villa.

Steven Gerrard wants to bring in a defensive midfielder before next Monday’s transfer deadline and the Uruguayan has emerged as the top target.

Juventus are open to selling him but want a big fee in the region of €25m as they would owe more than 35 per cent of the proceeds to Bentancur’s former club Boca Juniors.

Negotiations are ongoing but according to Italian journalist Nicola Balice, the player is not convinced about moving now.

Bentancur is not convinced that now is the right time for him to leave Juventus despite the strong interest from the Villans.

The midfielder has found a way to become a regular in the Juventus team and has been an important player for them.

Massimiliano Allegri is only interested in letting the player go if Juventus can find an ideal replacement for him.

Aston Villa are pushing to land him but have work to do to convince the player to consider the move to the Midlands.
