Lingard is desperate to leave Manchester United ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline and has been left unhappy at the way the club conducted negotiations with Newcastle.

Newcastle were prepared to cover his wages for the loan deal and were even ready to fork out a considerable loan fee.

But Manchester United stopped the proposed loan move by their demand for a £12m bonus if Newcastle survive in the Premier League this season.

Newcastle are not ready to pay such a figure and it is said to have killed the negotiations but it has been claimed that Burnley are interested in signing Lingard.

Sean Dyche is looking to bring in a striker to replace Chris Wood who left the club for Newcastle earlier this month.

But the Burnley boss is also in favour of adding more creativity to his squad in order to aid their survival chances.

And it has been suggested that the Clarets are weighing up signing Lingard on loan for the rest of the season.

Manchester United have rejected loan approaches for West Ham and Tottenham as they did not want Lingard to join a top-four rival.

It remains to be seen whether the player is keen on a move to Burnley if they make an offer for him.
