The Magpies have already bolstered their attack by roping in striker Chris Wood from Burnley, but boss Eddie Howe is keen on adding more firepower to his frontline.

With only three days left in the window, Newcastle’s hierarchy have ramped up efforts to make further signings.

The Tyneside giants have a number of attacking players on their transfer radar, including Marseille hitman Dieng.

And in addition to Newcastle, Dieng is also credited with interest from rival Premier League clubs West Ham United, Crystal Palace, Brighton, Burnley and Watford.

However, according to French outlet Foot Mercato, Newcastle are the keenest on Dieng amongst all the clubs that have registered interest in him.

But Howe’s side are only likely to move for the Marseille man this month if they fail with their efforts to land forwards that are higher up their transfer wish list.

It remains to be seen whether Newcastle will act on their interest and make concrete moves to take Dieng to St James’ Park in the coming days.

Or whether another one of his suitors will hit the transfer accelerator.
