Spurs made Diaz a top target during the final days of this month’s transfer window and were pushing to sign him from FC Porto.

The Colombia international though is Liverpool bound after Porto accepted an offer worth €60m from the 2020 Premier League champions.

Tottenham are not failing to sign him due to being bettered financially by Liverpool though; it has been claimed the Reds will pay less up front.

Antonio Conte’s side were willing to meet Porto’s €60m demands for the winger.

Tottenham have lost out because Diaz has specifically chosen to go to Liverpool instead of to north London.

The Porto star wants to play under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield and join a side involved in the Champions League and battling at the top end of the Premier League table.

Liverpool had intended to move for Diaz in the summer, but with the player willing to move this month brought their swoop forward.

The Reds have sent officials to South America, where Diaz is playing due to Colombia’s international matches, to seal the deal.
