Newcastle pushed hard to sign Carlos during this month’s transfer window, but failed to come up with a proposal which would convince Sevilla to sell; the jury is out on whether they will go back for him in the summer.

Now it has emerged that Tottenham have also tried to convince Sevilla to sell Carlos.

The north London side put together a package which included Giovani Lo Celso in part-exchange, but it was rejected by Sevilla, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato.

Sevilla have remained firm in their view that only a monster offer would be enough for them to sanction the departure of Carlos this month.

The club are involved in the title race in La Liga and do not want to lose Carlos.

Sevilla currently sit second in the Spanish top flight table and four points behind heavyweights Real Madrid.

With time left in the transfer window, Sevilla could still be tested with offers for Carlos before it shuts.
