The Magpies have been pining for a centre-back this window and after some failures with other targets, they are now close to signing one.

Brighton & Hove Albion have accepted the Magpies’ offer for Dan Burn and manager Eddie Howe will at least add one option to his squad at centre-back.

However, the Newcastle manager desires another centre-back before the window is done and Diop is on the Magpies’ list of targets.

As such, the Magpies have tabled in a bid with the Hammers for the centre-back but the prospect of the move happening is low.

The Hammers are expected to refuse the offer for Diop, who has become a valuable part of manager David Moyes’ squad in recent weeks.

West Ham have made their position clear from the start and do not want to lose any centre-backs this window with injury concerns in that area.

Thus they were not willing to entertain any possibility of Diop leaving and will most likely turn down the Magpies’ offer .
