The Hammers are gearing up to face Spanish giants Sevilla in the round of 16 in the Europa League clash on Thursday at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.
West Ham won all but one of the group games in the continental competition as they qualified for the knockout stages and are now going up against the team with the most trophies in the history of the competition.
Former Tottenham Hotspur star Lamela, who knows West Ham well from his stint in England before he joined Sevilla, has warned his side that they are set to face a very physical and powerful team in Thursday’s clash.
Lamela feels the Hammers will sit back more in the upcoming game against Sevilla but stressed his side have a lot of quality players in their ranks and are a well-trained squad.
“When I come back [from injury], I’m going to have to manage anxiety; I’m very impulsive”, Lamela said on Sevilla’s television talk show A Balon Parado.
“About West Ham, I know they’re a very physical and powerful team.
“I think they are going to sit back for us here.
“We have to be intelligent; we have a very good squad and we are trained.”
West Ham will look to return from Spain with a positive result to take into the reverse fixture at the London Stadium pencilled in for 17th March.
