Lewandowski grabbed headlines on Tuesday night when he scored the fastest hat-trick in Champions League history against Red Bull Salzburg in Bayern Munich’s last 16 tie.

The forward is set to turn 34 at the start of next season but has shown no signs of slowing down, scoring 42 times in 35 appearances this season in all competitions.

He will enter the final year of his contract in the summer and Bayern Munich are prepared to enter into talks over a new deal with his representatives.

But according to German daily Bild, Manchester United are lying in wait if the Pole decides to leave the German champions at the end of the season.

The Bavarians want to keep him but if a new contract is not agreed upon, the striker is likely to leave them in the summer.

Manchester United are keeping tabs on his situation and are prepared to filter through their first offer if negotiations between Bayern Munich and Lewandowski fail.

The Premier League giants are believed to be targeting a young striker in the summer as part of their plans.

But it has been claimed if Lewandowski becomes available, Manchester United are keen to make a move for him.
