After struggling at Spurs in the first half of the season, Lo Celso went on loan to Villarreal for the second half of the campaign in search of game time.

He has impressed thus far for the Yellow Submarine, not missing a single game since arriving at the La Liga club.

He has 18 appearances in total for Villarreal and helped the Yellow Submarine reach the semi-finals of the Champions League, being named Man of the Match in the first leg of the quarter-finals against Bayern Munich.

Lo Celso’s loan agreement does not contain an option to buy, but Villarreal are nonetheless hoping to secure the permanent signing of the midfielder.

They are encouraged in this pursuit by not only the good form of the midfielder but also the money pouring in from reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.

The Spanish club were initially fretting over European qualification and Spurs’ asking price, but the dual factors have contrived to convince Villarreal to pursue the midfielder’s permanent signing.

The Yellow Submarine will outline their plans to complete the permanent signing of Lo Celso after the season is over.

It remains to be seen if they will be able to reach an agreement with Tottenham.
