The weekend’s game will determine the Black Cats’ fortunes as to next season and the Wearside club will be hoping to put an end to their four-year League One stay and secure Championship football for next term.

Bennett believes that the Chairboys will do their utmost to unsettle Sunderland by getting in the Black Cats’ faces in the weekend game.

The Black Cats legend thinks the key for Sunderland will be winning individual battles at the weekend and he overall thinks his former club have more quality in their squad than Wycombe.

Speaking to the Northern Echo, Bennett said: “We all know what Wycombe are about and they will play to their strengths.

“They will try to upset Sunderland, get in their faces, get balls into the box, if not winning the first then trying to win the second one.

“What we’ve got to do, which you’ve always got to do in every game, is win your individual battles.

“If we can compete and stand up and be counted, then you look on paper with the ability of what we’ve got, we’ve got a bit more quality to go on and make things happen.”

The Black Cats put three goals past the Chairboys in each of their two league games, though they conceded the same amount in the last fixture, and they will be looking to break down their defence this time around as well while maintaining solidity at the back.
