Carlos was on Newcastle United’s transfer wish list in January but Sevilla did not budge from their asking price despite multiple offers from the Magpies.
The Magpies still retain an interest but other sides have also been linked with wanting to snap up Sevilla’s centre-back.
And Aston Villa want to beef up in the centre-back department ahead of next season after already adding to midfield with the signing of Boubacar Kamara.
The Villans have already started negotiations with the Spanish club and have communicated formally their intention to buy the centre-back.
Manager Steven Gerrard’s side have now put their foot on the gas and could agree a deal for Carlos within dayhs, according to Seville-based daily ESTADIO Deportivo.
The release clause of the centre-back is €75m, but the Seville club are willing to part with him for €50m.
The Villans are prepared to meet that fee and unlike in January, as happened with Newcastle, Sevilla appear more inclined towards selling the player.
It remains to be seen if other clubs now come in for Carlos.
