Saliba spent the recently-concluded season on loan at Marseille and won the Ligue 1’s Young Player of the Year for his performances.

The defender has shown a willingness to return to Marseille ahead of next season and is keen to play for them again but Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta wants him to be part of his squad.

The Gunners manager has insisted that the Frenchman has to return to north London over the summer and prepare to be part of his plans for next season.

However, Longoria seems to be holding on to the hope of having Saliba back at Marseille ahead of the new campaign.

The Marseille president stressed that he wants to hold talks with Arsenal and see whether an agreement can be reached as Saliba is keen to return to the French club.

Longoria told French radio station RMC: “We are discussing a lot internally about what we can do and to find out what the possibilities are.

“We have to talk to each other, see if there is a possibility of finding an agreement between the clubs.

“There is the will of the player and the will of the club.”

Saliba has two years left on his Arsenal contract and the club are looking to have talks with his representatives over his future this summer.
