Real Madrid have been leading the race to snap up the midfielder, but despite agreeing personal terms with the player have needed to agree a fee with Monaco.

Liverpool, along with Paris Saint-Germain, have continued to stay in the race in the hopes of being able to hijack the deal.

However, Real Madrid have upped the ante and are close to agreeing a deal with Monaco which will, according to French outlet Foot Mercato, see a fee of €100m including bonuses thrashed out.

The fee is at the high end of the sum Monaco were looking for and Liverpool have now pulled out of the chase.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will now focus on other midfield targets.

PSG continue to trail Real Madrid and have not sent an offer to Monaco, despite holding talks with Tchouameni’s representatives.

Real Madrid are now poised to complete the signing of the Monaco man having pushed hard financially, stung by losing out on Kylian Mbappe following his decision to stay at PSG.
