In a season fraught with misfortune, Davies nonetheless stood firm at the back for the Rams as they endured relegation from the Championship.

The centre-back played every minute of the Championship campaign and even scored four goals, but he could have ended up not playing for the Rams in the season gone past.

He initially left the club in July of the previous year but was re-signed on a new one-season deal in the midst of a turbulent time for the club.

The Rams are looking to renew Davies’  deal without any delay, like last summer, ahead of next season and to that end have begun contract talks with him.

And they are hopeful that they will reach an agreement with the defender this week over a new contract.

Bristol City and Hull City have been credited with an interest in the centre-back, but with Chris Kirchner’s takeover expected to go through soon, the Rams are expecting to be allowed to sign players.

With the centre-back being such an integral part of the campaign last season, the Rams will be hoping they get to field him again next campaign as they look to get promoted at the first attempt.
