The 22-year-old winger spent last season on loan at Feyenoord and his loan deal expires at the end of the month.

Feyenoord already informed the player towards the end of the campaign that they want him back at the club next season.

The Dutch club are moving forward with their attempt to extend Nelson’s stay at the club beyond the summer.

According to Dutch daily De Telegraaf, the club are now engaged in talks with Arsenal to keep Nelson at Feyenoord next season.

They are hoping to agree on another loan deal but his current contract with Arsenal has one more year to run.

The Gunners would prefer to sell him this summer rather than watch him see out his contract on loan.

Nelson is believed to be keen on staying at Feyenoord and the Dutch club are hopeful of working out an agreement with the Gunners.

Nelson is not believed to be part of Mikel Arteta’s plans for the forthcoming campaign.
