The 25-year-old midfielder’s future at Barcelona has been under the scanner all summer due to serious interest from Manchester United.

Barcelona’s financial troubles have led to suggestions that the club are prepared to sell him in the ongoing transfer window.

The Dutchman has been insistent that he wants to stay at Barcelona but has been gradually accepting that the club want to move him on.

There were claims that De Jong is not interested in a move to Old Trafford but it has been suggested that a transfer to Manchester United appeals to him.

Erik ten Hag has been in regular contact with the player and has been trying to convince him about the move.

The new Manchester United manager is said to have told the Dutchman that he would be the centre of the rebuild he is planning for Manchester United.

The former Ajax boss’ words seem to have made a difference and the Dutchman is now open to a move to Old Trafford.

Manchester United are said to have tabled a bid worth €60m in an upfront fee and another €20m in add-ons for De Jong.
