The 31-year-old has three years left on his contract at Newcastle but was relegated to being the number two to Martin Dubravka.

Darlow wants to play regular football next season and could well push for a move away from Newcastle this summer.

Newcastle are expected to sign a goalkeeper and are set to open the door for his departure in the ongoing transfer window.

And it has been claimed he is one of the two goalkeeping targets for Middlesbrough this summer.

Boro have already signed Northampton keeper Liam Roberts on a two-year deal but he is set to be the number 2 next season.

The Teesside club want a new number one and Darlow is one of the goalkeepers they are tracking.

The other top target for Middlesbrough is Leicester City’s Daniel Iversen, who impressed on loan at Preston North End.

Boro finished seventh in the Championship in the 2021/22 campaign and want to push for promotion next season.
