Magpies boss Eddie Howe’s top priority this summer is to sign a new striker and they have zeroed in on Reims starlet Ekitike.
Newcastle failed with their efforts to snap up the Frenchman in January and are hoping for better luck this time around having reached an agreement with the Ligue 1 outfit over a fee for him.
However, Newcastle are yet to complete a move for Ekitike as they have not agreed on the commission for the striker’s agent.
But the Tyneside giants want to seal Ekitike’s services as soon as possible once they reach a complete agreement on every aspect of the package and have already set up a medical for him.
Newcastle want to put Ekitike through his medical paces as soon as they find a breakthrough in negotiations over a deal and club sporting director Dan Ashworth is working hard.
Ekitike is currently enjoying his summer break but is prepared to end his holiday prematurely to sort out negotiations with Newcastle.
The Magpies hierarchy see the striker playing a key role in their squad now and in the future and are looking forward to having face-to-face talks with the player as soon as possible.
