The goalkeeper has been tipped to move on from Newcastle this summer as he is behind Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow in the pecking order, while the Magpies are also expected to sign another custodian.

Woodman, who spent time on loan at Bournemouth last season, has been at Newcastle since 2013 and has long been seen as a future first-choice goalkeeper.

However, he wants to leave St James’s Park in pursuit of first-team football after making only four league appearances for Newcastle, all at the start of last season.

Woodman is now close to ending his association with Newcastle as the 25-year-old will have a medical in Lancashire before signing a deal with Preston that is likely to be permanent.

Woodman will be relishing the chance to play regular first team football at Preston, who finished 13th in the Championship last term and will be hoping to challenge for promotion next term.

He is not new to the Championship and has made 88 appearances in the division, with a two-year loan stint at Swansea City under his belt and the Golden Glove in the 2020/21 campaign.

At Preston, Woodman will ply his trade under boss Ryan Lowe, who took charge at the club in December.

Preston start their pre-season campaign by taking on Bamber Bridge on 2nd July and it remains to be seen if Woodman is between the sticks.
