The Citizens have been on the hunt for a new shot-stopper this summer to deputise for club number one Ederson.

Manchester City zeroed in on Ortega, who is out of contract at Arminia Bielefeld at the end of this month and is available on a free transfer.

The German managed to impress in the Bundesliga last season although he was unable to help the Bielefeld outfit avoid relegation from the top flight.

And Ortega is now set to join one of Europe’s top clubs in Manchester City, as he is closing in on signing a three-year contract with them.

Manchester City are being tipped to put Ortega through a medical next week ahead of his move to the Etihad Stadium.

Ortega’s arrival will put Zack Steffen’s future at Manchester City further under the scanner, with him only registering nine appearances last term across all competitions.

Steffen is keen on clocking up first-team minutes on a regular basis as he is currently USA’s first choice between the sticks and is expected to feature for them in the forthcoming World Cup.
