Hammers boss David Moyes is looking to lead his side to a Champions League spot finish in the Premier League next term and is keen on bolstering several key positions including left-back.

Aaron Cresswell was Moyes’ first choice at left-back last season but he is keen to rope in a player with more quality in that position.

West Ham, who have identified Juventus star Pellegrini as a target, are in talks with Juventus over a move for him, and they are claimed to be leading the race for his signature.

But according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, the Hammers could lose the race to sign Pellegrini as Serie A new boys Monza are tipped to be ready to sign him from Juventus on a permanent basis.

Juventus are willing to let Pellegrini leave and a bid from Monza will provide them with the opportunity to cash in on his departure.

Representatives from Monza and Juventus also met on Thursday to discuss potential transfers as I Brianzoli eye an alternative option to their left-back Carlos Augusto.

Juventus are seeking at least €10m for Pellegrini and it remains to be seen whether West Ham will land their man, while Monza remain keen on him.
