The Italian giants are keen to bolster their defence in the ongoing window by signing a centre-back and they have Brighton man Ostigard high on their transfer wish list.

Ostigard played at Serie A side Genoa last season on a temporary stint from the Seagulls and Napoli are keen to bring him back to Italy.

The Naples outfit have received the green light from Ostigard over a move to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona and they have made it clear to Brighton that they want to sign him on loan.

However, Napoli are yet to receive the Premier League outfit’s approval to sign Ostigard as, according to Italian daily Il Mattino, they are not interested in loaning him out and rather want to sell him outright.

Brighton’s preference to cash in on Ostigard this summer has made matters complicated for Napoli and they will have to sit at the negotiating table with the Seagulls to sort out a move for the centre-back.

Ostigard has been on the books at Brighton since the summer of 2018, and has spent time away on a string of loan spells.

The 22-year-old is yet to play for Brighton’s senior team and it remains to be seen whether they will be able to offload him on a permanent basis in the ongoing window.
