Egan-Riley made 29 appearances in all competitions during the 2021/22 season, assisting once, which included three appearances for the first team, primarily at right-back.

Former Cityzens skipper Vincent Kompany is currently in charge of the Clarets, facing the task of rebuilding their backline after the departures of Ben Mee and James Tarkowski, as well as rumoured interest from Premier League clubs in the services of Nathan Collins.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis is another youngster who is set to join Burnley, on a season-long loan, after having made an impression on Kompany during their time together at Anderlecht in the first half of last season.

Egan-Riley has one year left on his current contract at  ManchesterCity, who have agreed to the sale of the 19-year-old to the Clarets with the fee already agreed between both parties.

The task at hand for Kompany is to rebuild the team, while also securing promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

It will be Harwood-Bellis’ fourth loan away from the Etihad Stadium after spells at Blackburn Rovers, Anderlecht and Stoke City whereas it is set to be Egan-Riley’s first proper stint in senior football.

The England Under-19 international, who has also been capped by the Republic of Ireland in a lower age group, will look to stake a claim for a starting spot at Turf Moor next season.
