The 25-year-old defender made 27 appearances for Angers last summer and was one of the key parts of the squad that finished 14th in the league table in France.

However, he has a year left on his contract and the left-back has been heavily linked with a move away from the French side this summer.

Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin have identified him as one of their priority targets in the ongoing transfer window.

But he has also been linked with a move to England and according to French sports daily L’Equipe, Birmingham and another Championship club are interested in him as well.

It has been suggested that the two English second-tier clubs have made enquiries into the possibility of signing him.

It remains to be seen whether either of the clubs make any concrete offers for him in the coming days.

Union Berlin can offer him German top-flight football and the chance to play in the Europa League next season.

Whether either of the Championship clubs can convince Doumbia to forsake that in favour of playing in the second tier of English football remains to be seen.
