Maatsen joined the Chelsea youth system in the summer of 2018 after spending time in the academies of Feyenoord, Sparta Rotterdam, and PSV Eindhoven.

The 20-year-old spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Coventry City, where he scored three goals, while assisting one in 42 outings for the club.

Maatesen has been left out of Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States and several English outfits such as Nottingham Forest and Burnley are after his signature.

The Dutch left-back has agreed personal terms with Burnley and it has been claimed that the player is set to undergo a medical today.

The Clarets were relegated from the Premier League on the last day of the 2021/22 campaign and appointed former Manchester City player Vincent Kompany as their new manager.

It has been suggested that the Burnley manager was instrumental in persuading Maatsen to reject offers from other teams and move to Turf Moor.

Maatsen, who performed well for Coventry City in Championship last season, could prove to be a good addition for Burnley as Kompany looks for a return to the Premier League.
