Kral spent the 2021/22 season on loan at the London Stadium, but struggled for game time under David Moyes.
The 24-year-old got a single minute of Premier League football under his belt and did not play a part in West Ham’s impressive run to the semi-finals of the Europa League, where they lost to eventual winners Eintracht Frankfurt.
Schroder was effusive in his praise for the Czech international, highlighting the midfielder’s key attributes and terming his overall package ideal for the position he plays.
“Alex’s overall package is ideal for his position”, Schroder told Schalke’s official website.
“Despite his height at 1.87 metres, he is very nimble, covers a lot of ground and has a decent top speed.
“He’s smart in his work off the ball, closes space well and is good at anticipating his opponents.
“He is also very experienced for a 24-year-old and his body language is very positive.”
The Hammers finished the season in seventh place in the Premier League, securing European football for the second season running under David Moyes.
Kral was unable to dislodge Moyes’ chosen midfield pairing of Declan Rice and compatriot Tomas Soucek last term and will hope for better luck with Die Konigsblauen.
