McNeil made 40 appearances in all competitions for the Clarets during the 2021/22 season, registering one assist.

The 22-year-old was a near constant in the Burnley starting line-up, making 35 starts in the Premier League and a further three appearances off the bench, however he could not help his side avoid the drop.

McNeil has been linked with an exit from Turf Moor and it has been suggested that Crystal Palace and West Ham are in talks to sign him.

The former England Under-21 international is rated by a number of Premier League clubs, but the Eagles and the Hammers are not currently speaking to Burnley about him.

Burnley have already made seven new signings this summer after losing the majority of their defence from last season, including three centre-backs.

The rebuild is not going to be an easy task for new boss Vincent Kompany but he may be hoping that McNeil will be a part of it.

Bringing Premier League football back to Turf Moor at the end of next season is highest on Kompany’s agenda after taking on the job.
