The Magpies made a positive start to the transfer window as they made Matt Targett’s loan permanent, captured goalkeeper Nick Pope and beat AC Milan to defender Sven Botman.

Eddie Howe has now turned his attention to reinforcements in the final third and is keen on a wide man and another striker.

Newcastle have shown interest in a number of players and it is claimed they are desperate to make signings, but are encountering crazy prices, something which has continued to dog them in the market.

Leicester City are suggested to have quoted Newcastle £50m to sign Harvey Barnes, while a similar sum would be needed to sign Anthony Gordon from Everton.

The Magpies like Leeds United winger Jack Harrison, however he would cost £35m to sign; they are now being linked with Paris Saint-Germain’s Julian Draxler.

Howe’s side could be forced to wait until later in the transfer window in the hope that prices will cool as the deadline approaches.

Newcastle also suffered problems in the January transfer window, with their status as the richest club in the world pushing up prices.
