Roma are in contact with Manchester United for the signature of the defender in the ongoing transfer window.

Manchester United would prefer to sell him this summer for a fee of €15m but Roma are looking to sign him on loan with an option to buy.

The Ivorian would be interested in a move to Roma if he does not get any guarantees over playing from Erik ten Hag ahead of the new season.

But according to Italian sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport, the defender’s wage demands are an issue for the Serie A giants at the moment.

Bailly is currently on a contract worth €4m per year at Manchester United but Roma are not prepared to pay such a figure.

Any deal would have to involve Manchester United making a pledge to cover part of his wage during the loan stint.

The defender could also agree to take a pay cut in order to facilitate his move to Roma this summer.

The Serie A giants are keen on Bailly but they are some way away from working out a deal to sign him from Manchester United at the moment.
