Fofana has become the primary defensive target for Chelsea after they failed to sign Matthijs de Ligt, Jules Kounde and Nathan Ake this summer.

The Blues are pushing hard to secure a deal for him but they have found a reluctant seller in Leicester, who do not want to sell the centre-back in the ongoing window

Chelsea have already failed with two bids, the last one was in excess of £70m, but they are not prepared to walk away from the pursuit of the Frenchman.

And it has been claimed Chelsea are prepared to pay as much as £85m to snare Fofana away from the King Power Stadium.

Such a deal would smash the world record fee for a defender, which currently stands at the £80m Manchester United paid Leicester to sign Harry Maguire in 2019.

Chelsea are ready to push the boat out for Fofana despite Leicester making it clear that the defender is not for sale.

The Frenchman is open to the move as he feels he has a better chance of being in France’s World Cup squad if he joins Chelsea.
