Phillips has not yet put pen to paper to a professional contract at Blackburn, but the club are in talks with him and are optimistic he will sign.

Tottenham however are aware of the teenager’s talents and it was claimed earlier this week that they are closing in on taking him to the capital.

Spurs have made no formal move for Phillips, but if they did sign him then they would not slot him into their first team squad straight away.

Instead, the Premier League club would put Phillips into their youth set-up or send him out on a loan deal.

The defender has already played twice for Blackburn in the Championship this season, starting at centre-back on both occasions.

He also started the the Ewood Park outfit in their EFL Cup first round win over Hartlepool United.

Blackburn will hope the prospect of game time in the Championship will help Phillips decide to snub attention from Tottenham.
