A versatile winger who can play on either flank, Gordon came through the Everton academy and is a firm favourite of manager Frank Lampard.

Despite the transfer fee he would command, Everton are reluctant to sell Gordon after having lost last season’s topscorer in Richarlison to Tottenham and Dominic Calvert-Lewin to injury.

The 21-year-old has expressed a desire to move to London and play Champions League football in a bid to make Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup in November.

Jordan believes that £60m for Gordon is an incomprehensible sum and that Everton ought to take advantage of having such a bid made so as to strengthen their squad.

He remarked that Erling Haaland went to Manchester City for a lower sum.

Jordan further noted that Everton would be best served by sealing the deal before the Blues’ hierarchy wake up and stop the deal cold.

Anthony Gordon for £60m! What? I mean, Haaland went for £51m”, Jordan said on talkSPORT.

Okay, that’s because someone protected his contract and put it in a situation where the player was in control by having a release clause.

£60m for Anthony Gordon? Send him in a cab. Quick, before somebody actually wakes up and smells the coffee. £60m!

Gordon made 40 appearances for the Toffees in all competitions during the 2021/22 season, scoring four goals and laying on three assists.

Everton currently sit in 17th place in the Premier League table after taking just one point from their opening three games while Chelsea are in 12th position after slumping to a 3-0 defeat at Elland Road.
