Manchester United’s interest in Gakpo is more or less over following the capture of Antony for big money from Ajax.
However, the Dutchman could still be in the Premier League this season as Southampton are pushing to sign the player before Thursday’s transfer deadline, while Frank Lampard’s Everton are admirers and could need to replace Anthony Gordon.
Southampton have tabled a bid worth £21m to snare Gakpo away from the Dutch giants in the ongoing window.
It has been claimed that PSV rejected the offer and have made their financial expectations clear for a deal.
The Dutch giants want a fee of around £25m before agreeing to let the player go in the next 72 hours.
Gakpo wants to play in the Premier League and was disappointed to see Manchester United withdraw their interest.
A move to England appeals to him and Southampton are expected to table another offer to try and get him.
It remains to be seen whether the Saints can get a deal agreed to take Gakpo to the south coast before Thursday’s deadline, or whether Everton come in with a solid offer.
