Pearson saw some of his most important players in Andreas Weimann and Antoine Semenyo, to mention but a few, head off to international duty recently.

The aforementioned players saw their minutes out on the pitch regulated as Weimann played a little over half of one fixture for Austria and Semenyo made two substitute appearances for Ghana, adding up to 22 minutes overall.

Pearson professed his gratitude towards those federations for cooperating with the Robins to ensure no player came back exhausted ahead of the visit of Queens Park Rangers to Ashton Gate.

The 59-year-old tactician was particularly concerned for Semenyo as he continues the return to full fitness after an injury and talked up the 22-year-old forward’s chances of earning a spot in the starting line-up, with him having played a sum total of 171 minutes across six games for the Robins so far.

Well, I’m actually pleased about that because the conversations we’ve had with international federations before the players went away, thankfully, those federations have been cooperative with our recommendations for the amounts of time the players get on the pitch”, Pearson told Bristol City’s official website.

That’s a real positive because sometimes you have very important players for us go away, play every minute, come back and are exhausted.

I think, for all those players, you know, Andy [Weimann] played 60, 70 minutes of the first game, didn’t play in the second one, Antoine’s had two sub appearances and for him, the preparation for the World Cup at an international level, that’s good for him.

For us, he’s getting exposure, which helps him to come back from an injury, which is not straightforward.

He looks incredible when he goes on and he’s probably about ready to start now, which is very good for us and for him in terms of how he sees his future with the Ghanian national side.

For once, those factors have come together and it’s pretty positive.”

The ninth-placed Robins welcome the R’s, who currently occupy the last playoff spot, at the weekend with only a point separating them and will look to get back to winning ways after losing their last two games.
